Cap it off!

Your t-shirt can really say it all. Whether it’s your politics, humour, quirks, beliefs or interests: what you say or display on your shirt can say a lot about you.

So what is your cap saying? Caps, or “ball caps,” are the t-shirt’s kissing cousin. They are also little propaganda machines. But the cap platform is a little different than the t-shirt.

For one, there’s a little less room. You can print a lot more on a t-shirt than you can on a cap. But sometimes less is more. A short phrase or small design can have a big impact.

They are called ball caps for a reason: they originated with baseball players. They are the ideal sun visor. And wearing your favourite baseball team’s ball cap is one of the best ways to pledge your allegiance.

But it’s no longer just the baseball teams. Pretty much every sports team has adopted the ball cap as part of their merchandise. And your “team” could now be your employer; caps are often part of uniforms. Or maybe it’s your club or school. Like any other printable apparel, what begins as a blank cap can quickly become a unifier for a group of people and instantly join them together by way of their beliefs, interests or affiliations.

Although caps are often identified with youth, many adult men and women also wear caps for a variety of reasons. Maybe it’s worn for other sports (golf, running), general sun protection, outdoor play, or to hide a thinning hairline or bed head. This group might choose blank caps, trucker hats, dri-fit or a meshy. Or they may just choose whichever one is hanging by the door on their way out.

In certain groups, how you wear your cap is as important as what is on your cap. Certain groups never slant their caps or wear them backwards. While others, would never wear them straight on. The curve (or flatness) of your peak is also particular and can reveal a lot about your alliances or personality.

So whether you’re wearing a Yankees hat, a Spongebob hat, or a random hat you got for free from a tradeshow last month, the cap on your head can reveal a lot about you.
